What’s Really in That Lather?
Why Harsh Chemicals Don’t Belong in Pet Spas
A clean dog should feel healthy. Not irritated. Not dried out. Not scratching five minutes after the bath.
But the truth is, a lot of soaps and shampoos used in pet care today are built for cost and foam, not for long-term skin health. Many are loaded with aggressive detergents and synthetic additives that can strip a dog’s coat and disturb the natural balance of their skin.
A dog’s skin barrier is thinner than a human’s. That means what goes on their coat matters even more.
Common Chemicals Found in Cheap Pet Shampoos
Not every product is created with the same level of care. Some lower quality formulas rely on ingredients like:
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)
A strong detergent commonly used to create heavy lather. While it makes soap feel powerful, it can strip natural oils from the coat and lead to dryness or irritation.
Artificial Fragrances
Many “fresh” scents are created using synthetic fragrance blends that can contain dozens of undisclosed compounds. These can trigger skin sensitivities in pets with more delicate skin.
Parabens
Used as preservatives to extend shelf life. While common in many cosmetic products, they are often avoided in higher quality grooming formulas because of concerns around skin absorption and irritation.
Phthalates
Sometimes hidden within fragrance formulas. These are used to stabilize scent but are increasingly avoided in modern pet care products.
Harsh Alcohol-Based Additives
Certain formulas use alcohol derivatives that can dry the coat and skin barrier if used repeatedly.
The result of using these kinds of ingredients over time can include itching, flaky skin, dull coats, and irritation that owners sometimes mistake for allergies.
Clean Should Never Come at the Cost of Comfort
At Dogvana, we believe the entire bathing experience should support the health of the animal, not just the appearance.
That is why we are committed to avoiding harsh chemical shortcuts and focusing on balanced, skin-conscious cleansing products designed for pets.
We also built our wash environment around precision-conditioned water, which helps reduce mineral interference that can cling to the hair shaft and prevent cleansers from rinsing properly. When soap rinses more completely, less residue stays trapped against the skin.
The goal is simple.
A coat that feels clean.
Skin that stays calm.
Freshness that lasts longer than the ride home.
A Better Standard for Pet Hygiene
Pet care is evolving, and hygiene should evolve with it. Dogs and cats deserve products and systems that are chosen carefully, not just whatever happens to be cheapest on a supply shelf.
Dogvana was built around that idea from the ground up.
A place where every bath is designed to support healthy coats, comfortable skin, and a better experience for pets and their owners.
